20 sept

What we were making/doing:
Today we were looking at some art pieces by Simon Patterson when he uses his fascination with lists, information and data to create maps based on the london underground map design. We were talking about using mind mapping to create art and thinking about how to organise information in our own visual way. After we had done some mind map drawings we all collaborated on a large scale piece using tape (like Jim Lambie who covers entire gallery floors in coloured stripes made of tape) and creating 'stops' where we then drew or wrote in

Artists we were looking at:
Simon Patterson
Jim Lambie

What we learnt:
We learnt that putting information and words together can start to create something we treat as art. We learnt that to collaborate we have to all be discussing what each other is doing without leaving any part out. We all collaborated really well together! We were learning how to use tape to make art just like Jim Lambie does and how to use the medium of a 'map' to describe a journey or development of ideas
