21 june

What we were making/doing:
Paint is awesome! We happen to think so anyway! This week we were painting on card, painting on different colours of paper, painting little bits, painting the whole page, mixing colours, sketch painting objects, taking our time, being quick, painting stuff we were talking about and somehow we also ended up painting on left over fruit and making prints from other paintings! A good old mess is always a good sign that some real art has been going on and indeed, we were all pretty messy. We looked at similarities and differences in different painters work and even tried out some of the techniques ourselves.

Artists we were looking at:
Masaki Kawai
Franz Ackerman
Richard Prince
Robert Rauchenberg
Gary Hume
Cy Twombly

What we learnt:
We learnt about making different types of mark using paint and that making a mess with paint is the best way to understand the substance and how to then express an idea or image through it. We learnt that different artists use different ways of using paint to explore art.

Some things we had to say about art this week:
'my paint mixed together looks like toothpaste'
'when I mix colours together it makes new colours I've never seen before'
'I can do the best fart noise'
'painting on our fruit is a bit like that painting where Rauchenberg painted off the painting and onto a chair in his house!'
